Carrot Dress For Dress Me Bunny

Hello Friends,
The Carrot Dress is here! This pattern uses Single, Double, and Half Double Crochet Stitches.

The colors of the dress and overalls together are so charming.  I used Red heart Comfort yarn for everything pictured and I've included the color codes in the supplies list. There is a photo of this same dress done in red at the bottom of this page. You can use any color you'd like so feel free to mix it up.

Keep scrolling for pattern links. Scroll slowly so you don't miss them!

Both outfits plus the bunny itself  have video tutorials to go with them plus a couple of accessory patterns. I'll link you up right here so you don't have to go searching, then just scroll down this page for the written pattern. I hope you enjoy!

Dress: starting with orange (Full video tutorial here)
1) ch29
2) start in 2nd st from hook, 1sc in each st (28) ch1 turn
3) start in 2nd st from hook, 1sc in next 6st then 2sc in next st (32) ch3 turn
4) start in 4th st from hook, 1dc in next 7st then 2dc in next st (36) ch3 turn
5) start in 4th st from hook, 1dc in next 8st then 2dc in next st (40) ch3 turn
6) start in 4th st from hook, 1dc in next 9st then 2dc in next st (44) ch1 turn
7) start in 2nd st from hook, 1sc in next 10st then 2sc in next st (48) ch1 turn
8) start in 2nd st from hook, 1sc in next 11st then 2sc in next st (52) ch2 turn
9) start in 3rd st from hook, 1hdc then 2hdc in next st (78) ch2 turn
10) start in 3rd st from hook, 1hdc in next 5st then 2hdc in next st (91) ch2 turn
11) start in 3rd st from hook, 1hdc in each st (91) ch2 turn
12) start in 3rd st from hook, 1hdc in each st, switch to green on last hdc (91) ch2 turn
13) (1sc the 3rd st from the hook, ch2, 1sc in next st then sl st next 3st. This is the end of this sequence) (ch2 1sc in next st repeat 4 times then sl st next 3st and repeat this sequence until there is 2st left in the row) for the last 2st, ch2 1sc in next st, ch2 1sc in next st then sl st into any space and f/o weave in yarn tails.
Place the dress onto the bunny. Take note where the middle snap closure should be sewn on making sure you have made room for the tail. Sew the snaps in place using similar color thread to your dress. If you think the dress is flaring out too much once it's on the bunny, I show how to fix that in the video.

Dress Straps: make 2 with green
1) ch13
2) start in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch (12)
f/o weave in yarn tails.

Place dress onto the bunny and take note where the straps should go. Sew the ends of the straps in place using a strand of orange yarn. Make sure you have room for the arm to go through before sewing both ends in place.

Pocket: make 2 with orange
1) ch10
2) start in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each st (9)
3-5) ch3 turn, start in 4th st from hook, 1dc in each st for 3 rows
f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in shorter yarn tail. Place on the dress, directly in line with the arms so that the hands lay right over the center of the pocket. When sewing around the pocket be sure to pierce the side stitches, sewing in a line down the edges of the pockets instead of wrapping (whip stitching) around the stitches. If you whip stitch this will create holes in the sides of the pockets.

Detachable Collar: starting with orange
1) ch 29
2) start in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each st (28) ch1 turn
3) 1sc in next 6st then 2sc in next st switch to green on last st (32) ch2 turn
4) (sc into the 3rd st from hook, ch2 and sc into next st, then sl st next 2st) ch2 sc into next st, ch2 sc into next st then sl st next 2st repeat this sequence to the end. f/o and weave in all yarn tails. Sew on snaps.

White Chain:
1) chain about 100-110. You can add more or less depending on desired length. f/o and leave a length for sewing. Thread the finishing yarn tail through your yarn needle and weave that in and out through the dress pulling the chain through as you weave. Go in about a half inch from the edge and finish the weaving about a half inch from the edge of the dress on the other end, this allows the dress to overlap without interfering with the bow. Cut the yarn tails off about a quarter inch from the knot on each end of the chain. Rub a little glue on the knots if you're worried they will come loose.
In the video I show how to tie the bow so that you have a bow that will sit perfectly on it's own.

Shoes: make 2 with orange
1) magic circle  with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st (30)
6-8) 1hdc in each st for 3 rows
9) 1sc in next 3st then 2tog (24)
10) 1sc into the next st then ch8 and sl st into the 12st from the start of the chain. f/o and weave in yarn tail.

I couldn't decide if I like the bow or not so I'm leaving it up to you to decide.

Little Bow: with green
1) ch18
f/o leaving a long yarn tail for wrapping and sewing. Cut the other yarn tail up close to the knot but not so close that it might come undone. Bring the 2 ends together making a circle, overlapping the ends just a bit. Bring the center of the circle down to meet the 2 ends forming a figure 8. Use the one yarn tail to sew it together then sew the bow to the shoe. You can sew it to the front, side, back.. anywhere you think looks best.

I hope you enjoyed the pattern!

Why donating is important and my thank you here.

    1. I only use 2 reds. One is Cherry Red from Red Heart Super Saver and the other is Cardinal Red from Red Heart Comfort yarn. I believe that one is the Cardinal Red. It's been a while so can't say for certain, sorry!

  6. Thank you so much for adding clothes to your wonderful creations. I loved to see my nieces face light up when I gave her the bunny with 3 dresses and her boy bunny in the 2 different colored overalls. The clothes make such a difference. I think her favorite thing is just sitting there and changing them then telling the bunny how pretty she looks in each one. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent. You make a lot of children smile!

  7. Thank you for these great patterns Sharon! With your permission I am making some of these delightful little characters & donating them to the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Children from all over Africa are brought here sometimes & with very little to occupy them.
    Thank you again!!

  8. I love your bunny pattern and all the clothes. I have a question when you make the chain what row on the dress do you thread it through?

    1. I really can't remember, sorry. I believe I mentioned it in the video though. If you look closely at the photo you could get a good idea where. It's not so important the row number as long as it's above the bottom snap or button closure, and above the tail, of course. Hope that helps!
