When Your Amigurumi Needs Extra Care

Oldies but goodies,
I hope you are well. I have been updating this blog and in doing so I'm coming across patterns I released years ago that haven't gotten much attention lately. It's time to get them circulating again.

When your amigurumi needs care,

I designed this wheelchair pattern in 2014 after my daughter broke her leg. She broke her leg and her growth plate so we ended up having to go to the hospital many times after for follow up x-rays.

My daughter's favorite color is purple and much to her despair there was no purple wheelchair in sight for her to use! That's where I got the idea to crochet her one as a keepsake.

Messages from around the world,

After releasing these patterns I got messages from all over the world about how much these patterns meant to them. I had no idea that my yarny wheelchair would touch people the way it did. I was absolutely humbled by that.

The Sick Sock Monkey,
After I released the pattern for the wheelchair I knew I had to design a monkey that we could injure. Look at him! He's willing to break a leg for us, lol

My daughter,

Photo taken in 2014. Her name is Gracie and was 11 years old when this happened. We had waited 6.5 hours in the emergency room for the surgeon to show up. It was broken in such a way the doctor on duty wanted an orthopedic surgeon to come and evaluate the leg more, he thought she needed surgery.  The surgeon debated for a while and decided on casting it without surgery.

All these years later she is still having issues with it and the injury eventually effected her knee as well. We have finally found her physical therapy that is showing signs of working. She suffered lots from this but keeps trucking along with a great attitude about it.

I hope you enjoy,
I hope you enjoy the patterns. There are videos to help you through each pattern. Keep in mind the videos are old and probably not the greatest quality but they will help if you need it.

  1. Hi, Sharon! I was wondering if you could make a short instruction video, or blog post about how you make Magic Loops. I've seen many ways of how people make it, and it seems to be a matter of personal preference. I was just wondering how you do it, personally.
I love your patterns, and am very grateful that you have decided to keep them free.
    Thanks!

  3. Hello, i myself am in a wheelchair so I am so thankful that you made a wheelchair pattern because in today's media and when I was a child there wasn't any disabled toys. I was wondering would this wheelchair fit your LBF characters?

    1. I'm so glad you found this pattern, it's an honor, thank you for taking the time to comment! And no, I don't think they would, they are bigger and chunkier than the little sock monkey. Sorry
