Crochet Carrot Hugging Bunny

Carrots The Little Bunny,

This is a quick little project you could use to fill up those Easter baskets this year.
Scroll down this page for the Bunny pattern. The carrot pictured has its own pattern page here.
Have fun!

Video tutorials available,
I do not have a row by row tutorial for this particular bunny but I do have an assembly video tutorial that will show how to add the toe pads, how to sew all the parts together, and how to make a bobble stitch tail. Video is here.
If you need help with basic stitches or how to increase and decrease, or how to read one of my patterns you will find all of that in this video series here

I hope you  enjoy this pattern!
Why donating is important and my thank you here.

Supplies:
worsted weight yarn in any color for bunny and tail
small amount of black for the eyes
small amount in any color for the nose (pink, blue, purple)
4mm hook
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
scissors
polyester stuffing

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
f/o = finish off

Magic ring:
Many parts of this amigurumi begin with a magic ring. I have 2 short video tutorials that will show you 2 different methods of making a magic ring. Use the one that is
easiest for you. View 1st method here and 2nd method here.

How to read the rows:
Add a maker at the end of row 2 and move that marker each time you finish a row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that row. When you land on the marker you should be putting in 2sc. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Bunny head and body:
1) magic ring with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5-8) 1sc in each st for 4 rows
9) 1sc then 2tog (16)
10) 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (12)
Now is the time to do the face, see instructions below. If you are using safety eyes they would be installed in between the 7th and 8th row with 3 stitch holes between them.
11) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
12-15) 1sc in each st for 4 rows
stuff and shape head
16) 1sc then 2tog (12)
stuff  and shape the majority of the body
17) 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (9)
f/o leaving a long tail. Weave in and out of the remaining stitches then stuff body more as needed. Pull yarn tail to close the gap and knot off.

Bunny Face:

Yarn Eyes:
Bring black yarn  from the inside of the head and out in between the 7th and 8th row then wrap over the 7th row 2 or 3 times then go back through and knot the yarn tails together and cut short. The eyes should have at least 3 stitch holes between them. Do them separately so that you don't see a strand of yarn between them once you stuff the head.

Nose: Add  the nose with color of your choice, bringing the yarn tail from the inside to the outside like you did for the eyes, through a stitch hole closest to one eye, wrap over and through the stitch hole closest to the other eye.  Wrap a few times then make lines for the mouth.  Knot off yarn tails then cut short.

Bunny ears: using the same color as the body, make 2
1) magic ring with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st (15)
4) 1sc in each st for 1 row
5) 2tog then 1sc in the remaining 13st (14)
6) 2tog then 1sc in the remaining 12st (13)
7) 2tog then 1sc in the remaining 11st (12)
8) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (10)
9-10) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
sl st next st and f/o leaving a tail for sewing. Do not stuff the ears

Bunny arms: using the same color as the body, make 2. The pattern below is for the hugging arms. They can be made shorter by taking out 2 rows in between 2 and 7.
1) magic ring with 5sc (5)
2-7) 1sc in each st for 6 rows

8) 1sc through both sides across 2 times
to close up the arm then f/o leaving a tail for sewing

Bunny Legs: using the same color as the body, make 2
1) magic ring with 6sc (6)
2) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (8)
3) 1sc in each st for 1 row
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (6)
5-6) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
7) 1sc through both sides across 2 times
to close up the leg then f/o leaving a tail for sewing

Toe Pads: Using any color of your choice., bring the yarn through a stitch hole in the back of the leg and out the front  in between the 2nd and 3rd row, wrap the yarn over a small space about 3 to 4 times then bring the yarn tail down a row and on the side to make the 2nd, then the 3rd. Then down about 2 rows to make the 4th toe pad. When you're done the 4th, knot off then bring the yarn tail back out the same stitch hole the other yarn tail is hanging, knot together, cut short and push the knot into the foot to hide it. Need help with this section view the beginning of the assembly video.

Options for the Bunny tail:
You can make a pom pom or a solid round tail as big as the pom pom or a tiny tail. I have included instructions for all 3. Pom Poms are not safe for small children due to a choking hazard.

Tiny Bobble Tail:
Pull yarn through the back of the bunny under the 14th row. Make a small bobble using 5dc. If you need help making a bobble watch the end of the assembly video.

Solid Bunny Tail as big as the pom pom:
Using white yarn
1) magic ring with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4-5) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
6) 1sc then 2tog (12)
7) 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (9)
f/o leaving a  tail for sewing. Weave in and out of the remaining stitches then stuff the tail. Pull yarn tail to close the gap and knot off. Use the yarn tail to sew the tail to the body

Pom Pom Tail: to make one as big as the one pictured

Wrap yarn around 3 fingers about 70-80 times. The more you wrap, the bigger the pom pom. Pull the wrap off your fingers and tie around the middle using a strand of yarn the same color. Pull tight and knot off. Leave the tie tails long, you can use these to sew to the bunny and also hang onto them while you trim the pom pom into shape. Cut through all the loops and trim to shape your pom pom.
If you need further help, I do have a video, it's an old one but does clearly show what to do, view video here

Assemble the Bunny in the following order:

1) Sew the legs in a V formation with toe pads facing you, whip stitch row 7 of the legs to row 16 of the body. Add a holding stitch on each side of the legs to keep them in position.
2) Sew the arms with the last row placed horizontally on the 11th to 13th row and far enough in so  the tips of the arms can touch in the front.  If you made the hugging arms then use one of the yarn tails when you're done sewing the arm in to sew the ends of the arms together.
3) Sew the ears in on either side of row 1 on top of the head.
4) If you made a pom pom or solid tail sew it in now.

    1. I'm not sure what the question is but the head and body are all one piece, just follow the pattern as it's written and you'll get a head body made.
