Little Remembrance Day Bear

This pattern is for the vest, the helmet and the poppy. The bear pattern is here

Please note you must use the same weight yarn as the camouflage yarn to make the bear in order for the vest and helmet to fit the bear.

Supplies:
Red Heart camouflage yarn to make the vest and helmet. You must use the same weight yarn and hook size to make the bear.
bear pattern
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
scissors
fabric glue or hot glue

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
FLO = front loops only
hdc = half double crochet
f/o = finish off

Vest: using the same yarn weight you used to make the bear
begin with a long starting yarn tail you will use to sew the vest to the bear. Also for rows 3-6, ch 2 and turn then start in the 3rd st from the hook.
1) ch 21 (video on how to work across a chain here)
2) starting in the 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch (20)
3) 1hdc in the next 3st then 2hdc in next st (25)
4) 1hdc in the next 4st then 2hdc in next st (30)
5) 1hdc in the next 4st then 2hdc in next st (36)
6) 1hdc in each st
f/o and weave in yarn tail

Helmet:
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st (30)
6) 1sc in next 4st then 2sc in next st (36)
7) 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st (42)
8-14) 1sc in each st for 7 rows
15) working in the FLO 1sc in next 10st, 1hdc in next 17st, 1sc in next 15st (42)
sl st into the next st and f/o leaving a long yarn tail you will use to sew the helmet to the head. Weave the yarn tail partially up the helmet. Do not sew the bottom edge of the helmet to the head. Just a few stitches around the top half of the helmet to the head will do fine.

Assembly:
1) place the vest around the bear and see where the arms will look best. Sew the arms directly to the vest then sew the vest to the bear.
2) place the helmet on the head with the larger rim of the helmet facing front and center. Place the ears on top and see where they will look best. Sew the ears to the helmet then sew the helmet to the head.

Poppy: you can begin with black yarn and switch to red when you make your first sl st but to save time just use a small piece of black felt and glue it to the center of the poppy. Use hot glue or fabric glue. You can also sew it to the center if you'd like but gluing is faster.
1) magic circle  with 6sc (6)
2) sl st to the first st then ch2 and put 5dc into the same st. Repeat these steps until you have 4 petals.. you skip 2st as you work and it doesn't matter which 2 because there's 6st and you will only work in 4 of them. sl st into any space of row 1 when you're done and f/o. I hot glued my poppy to a plastic flower stem that I stripped of its original flowers. You can also use florist wire, a stick or just attach it directly to the bear.

I hope you enjoyed the pattern!

    1. Thank you Mary; that is really so sweet and kind of you to do that! If you scroll to the bottom of the pattern there is a green colored print friendly button, click on that and a pop up box will appear. Take a moment to read all the options there.. you can just print it off or turn it into a pdf and save it to your computer. Try that and if you have any troubles at all just let me know
