Video Crochet Doll Fingers Tutorial

Video with written pattern,
I updated my crochet fingers video tutorial and this time I included a written pattern, however, this is for a hand that has 18st in it. My hope is that after watching the video you will be able to go on and make any size hand.

How to read the rows: Each row has a sequence as given below. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

For this particular arm I used the following pattern:
You can make the arm longer by adding more rows between 3 and 5 or 7 and 10.

1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
begin with a long starting tail that you will use later to sew the arm in place
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3-5) 1sc in each st for 3 rows
6) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (10)
7-10) 1sc in each st for 4 rows
11) 1sc then 2sc in next st (15)
12) 1sc in next 4st then 2sc in next st (18)
13) 1sc in each st then make fingers as instructed below or follow along with the video.

If this method of crocheting fingers doesn't work for you then there is also another way to crochet fingers which Kim Lapsley shows us the how to here Also be sure to check out Kim's free amigurumi patterns as well, she's got some awesome free patterns for you there!

1st finger:
row 1) 1sc into the 5th st from the hook counting backwards, crochet across the hand creating the first section, Add one more sc into the 5st you just went into. There is now 6st in the section and this completes row 1 of the finger.
You can make the fingers any length but for this pattern each finger has 4 rows.
rows 2-4) 1sc in each st for 3 rows (6)
sl st across the top of the finger to close it up and f/o and hide yarn tail inside finger

After the 1st finger is put in there should be 13 st remaining ~ after the 2nd finger is put in there should be 9st remaining

2nd and 3rd finger:

row 1) pull yarn through a stitch at the bottom of the first finger, don't pull the yarn through any of the remaining st of the row. Put 1sc in the next 2st then 2sc across the hand into the 2nd st from the finger. Put 1sc in the next st then sc across into the loops where you pulled the yarn through. There should now be 6st in this first row
rows 2-4) 1sc in each st for 3 rows (6)
sl st across the top of the finger to close it up and f/o and hide yarn tail inside finger

After 3 fingers there should be 5st remaining

4th Finger:
row 1) pull yarn through a stitch at the bottom of the 3rd finger, don't pull through any of the remaining 5st. Put 1sc in the next 5st then sc across into the loops where you pulled the yarn through. There should now be 6st in this first row
rows 2-4) 1sc in each st for 3 rows (6)
sl st across the top of the finger to close it up and f/o and hide yarn tail inside finger

Thumb:

row 1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 5st
row 2-3) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
sl st next st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing

  3. Love your tutorials. I have a question...in making the hand on row 6 you say to sc in next 4 stitches then 2 tog...what do I do with the other 5 stitches left in row 6? I'm confused, is row 7 started in the middle of row 6? Sorry for having to ask for an explanation but I am doing a doll for my grandaughter. Thanks for your help, Carla

    1. when you ended row 5 you should have 12st. So row 6 is 1sc in next 4st then 2tog, once you finish that you will have 6st left in the row and you repeat the previous sequence, 1sc in next 4st then 2tog. I normally have a "How to read rows" section just above the pattern but I see I don't have it in this one. An oversight on my part but I would have explained it in the video for sure. I'll update this page with that bit of info. Thanks for asking :)

  7. Thank you so much for your YouTube tutorial, I had a bit of trouble getting started then realised to turn the hand rightside out, fingers aren't perfect but I'm happy with them. I'm making a Bluey ( ABC children's show in Australia) for my grandsons 2nd birthday, I'm new to crocheting so these great tutorials are very helpful in learning. Was going to share a photo but can't work out how to do it :)
