 How to read the rows: Each row has a sequence as given below. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Add in a marker at the end of row 2 and move that marker at the end of every row.

sc = single crochet
st = stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
BLO = back loops only
FLO = front loops only
ch1 = chain one
f/o = finish off

HEAD:

1) Create a magic circle with 6st (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc, 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st, 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 3st, 2sc in next st (30)
6) 1sc in next 4st, 2sc in next st (36)
7) 1sc in next 5st, 2sc in next st (42)
8) 1sc in the BLO (42)
9-18) 1sc in each st for 10 rows
19) 1sc in the next 2sc then 2tog for 1 row
20+)1sc then 2tog until you are left with 9st
Before the hole gets too small stuff and shape head

NECK:

1-4) 1 sc in each st for 4 rows (9)
5) 2sc in each st (18)
switch to black yarn on the last stitch

BODY/COAT:
1) 1sc in the next 8st, 2sc in the 9th st. Do this 2 times (20)
2) 1sc in each st
3) 2sc in the 1st st, 1sc in the rest (21)
4-11) 1sc in each st for 8 rows
12) 1sc in each of the next 20st, 2sc in the last st (22)
13) 1sc in each of the next 21st, 2sc in the last st (23)
14) 1sc in each of the next 22st, 2sc in the last st (24)
15-16) 1sc in the FLO for 2 rows (24)
Do NOT finish off
Stuff the neck and the upper part of the body firmly, shape as you stuff.

By crocheting in the front loops for the last 2 rows you created a couple edges on the inside as pictured below. This is where you insert the color you will use for the pants. Use the edge that is furthest from you when you look inside

1) Insert and 1sc around for 1 row
2+)In the BLO, crochet 2tog until you close the gap. Should look as pictured above
Now continue on with the coat:

17) 1sc in the next 11st then 2sc in the 12th st, twice (26)
18-19) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
20) 1sc in the next 12st, 2sc in the 13th st, twice (28)
21) 1sc in each st
22) Now crochet around until you reach the middle of the front side of coat, stop, ch1, turn and 1sc in the next 28st, stop
23) ch 1, turn and 1sc in the next 28st, stop
24) ch1, turn and sc in the next 28st. Finish off

Chain a length that will fit the length of the coat, plus a short length to go as pictured
For the collar you need to make 2 separate pieces.

Piece #1)
ch 20. 1sc in each ch starting with the 2nd ch from hook. (19)
Ch1 turn,
2tog then 1sc repeat to the end (stitch in last 2 stitches) (13)
ch1, turn,
2tog then 1sc repeat to the end (stitch in last 2 stitches) (9)
Finish off

Piece #2)

ch 25. 1sc in each ch starting with the 2nd ch from hook. (24)
Ch1 turn,
2tog then 1sc repeat to the end (17)
ch1, turn,
2tog then 1sc repeat to the end (stitch in last 2) (13)
ch1, turn,
2tog then 1sc repeat to the end (9)
Finish off

Piece #1
For the 2nd piece, stitch the ends so they are more pointed where it sews to the front as pictured

There are 2 ways you can do the legs, one is to have a little bit of the legs showing at the bottom of pants as pictured or choose to just do the pants to the shoes. The choice is yours. The pattern for the legs below is for a little bit of the leg showing... if you don't want that then skip the front loop part and stitch in both loops near the bottom of the leg.

RIGHT LEG:
1) pick up 6st in a circle (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc in each st
4) 2tog, 1sc in the next 4st, 2tog, 1sc in the last 4st (10)
5-10) 1sc in each st for 6 rows
11-12)1sc in the FLO for 2 rows. Finish off (10)
13) Insert skin color into the inside edge that was created by stitching around the front loops, and 1sc around. Finish off

LEFT LEG:
1) pick up 6 st in a circle (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc in each st
4) 2tog, 1sc in the next 4st, 2tog, 1sc in the last 4st (10)
5-9) 1sc in each st for 5 rows
10-11)1sc in the FLO for 2 rows. Finish off (10)
12-13)Insert skin color into the inside edge that was created by stitching around the front loops, and 1sc in each st for 2 rows. Finish off

SHOES, make 4:

1) ch 7 (7)
2) starting at the 2nd ch from the hook, 1sc in the next 5 ch and 3sc in the last ch. Now continue 1sc around the other side. Finish off
DO NOT STUFF. Sew 2 together and sew to bottom of leg as pictured below.

OPTIONAL -- Back & Heel Part of Shoes:
The shoes look just fine as they are now but I wanted to add the heel which then required me to make the back piece.

Heel) Ch 7 and 1sc in each ch across starting from the 2nd ch from hook. Finish off.
Back of Shoe) Ch5, 1sc across starting from the 2nd ch from hook
ch1 turn, 2tog twice. Finish off

ARMS:
1) Magic circle 6 (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3-5) 1sc in each st for 3 rows
6) 2tog, 1sc in the next 2st, 2tog, 1sc in the next 2st, 2tog, 1sc in the last 2st (9)
7-14) 1sc in each st for 8 rows (9)
15) 1sc then 2sc (13)
Do Not Stuff the Arms

CUFF Just above hands:
Chain a length that will fit around wrist, 1sc in each ch starting with the 2nd ch from hook. Sew on wrist as pictured. You can use craft paint as I did. Or chain with a grey color

HANDS: Now you can either make fingers as I did or make a fingerless hand. I have a video tutorial on how to crochet doll fingers on youtube if interested ~> how to crochet fingers

16+) this is where you go on and make fingers. Make the fingers any length you choose. If you chose not to make fingers you can make the simpler round hand: 1sc then 2tog until you close the gap. Add a thumb if you want to!
To attach the arms thread yard through the inside part of the upper arm as pictured below then continue that thread though the body and on through the inside of the other arm pull it tight and knot off, doing them this way gives you jointed arms!

EARS:
1) Magic circle 6, pull tail to close circle
2) do not join, ch1 and turn. 1sc then 2sc (9)
3) Ch1 turn, 1sc in each. Finish off. Leave long tail for sewing
As pictured below, I threaded the tails through each pointed end of ear and pulled to curl the ends in. Sew onto head

Yahooo!! You're almost finished, now for the fun part... my favorite part of making dolls. Adding hair and creating a face that gives the doll it's personality!

 I like to root the hair into my dolls. Wybie has crazy hair. You need to root the hair as pictured below then brush, brush and brush, brush, and brush, brush some more until you have all the strands frizzed completely out. Use a wire brush for the best results. Remember this will take some time!

Take small bunches and tie them off then get them damp. Fiddle with the bunches until you are happy with the look. Below is the hair I did another Wybie doll. Same process I used for this recent Wybie but this last time I used black yarn only

For the eyes and mouth, nose and so on, it is all up to the creator. I chose buttons because they look great I think! The nose is created by inserting a length of yarn through the back of the head and out through where the nose will be. Use a needle and crochet hook to build and shape the nose. Once you've finished run the tail of the yarn back out through the back of the head and knot off. Hide in the hair. The same goes for the eyebrows and the mouth.

So now we're finished and you have your own Wybie doll!

I hope you  enjoyed this pattern!
