Ghost Doll Free Crochet Pattern

This is one of my favorites! She's such a creepy crocheted doll. I've seen a Ravelry project where someone used this pattern with glow in the dark yarn! That is very cool...

st = stitch
sc = single crochet
2tog = 2 stitches together
sl st = slip stitch
f/o = finish off

Special notes: I worked in continuous rounds with a 3.75mm hook and worsted weight yarn. Have any questions or if you come across a mistake in the pattern please leave a message in the comment section below.

HEAD:

1) Create a magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st, 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 3st, 2sc in next st (30)
6) 1sc in next 4st, 2sc in next st (36)
7) 1sc in each of the BLO (36)
8-11) 1sc in each st for 4 rows (36)
12) 1sc in the next 11st then 2sc in the 12th st, repeat 3 times (39)
13)1sc in the next 12st then 2sc in the 13th st, repeat 3 times (42)
14-15) 1sc in each around for 2 rows (42)
16) 1sc in the next 2 st then 2tog for 1 row
17+) 1sc then 2tog until you are left with 10st
Before the hole gets too small stuff and shape head

NECK:
1-5) 1 sc in each for 5 rows (10)
6) 2sc in each st (20)
You need to insert a pipe cleaner that has been folded over a couple times. This will keep the neck from flopping over

BODY:

7-11) 1sc in each around for 5 rows (20)
12) 1sc in the next 4st then 2sc in the 5th st, repeat around (24)
13-17) 1sc in each for 5 rows (24)
18) 1sc in the next 4st then 2tog, repeat around (20)
19-20) 1sc in each of the FLO for 2 rows (20)
21) 1sc in the next 4st then 2sc in the 5th st, repeat around (24)
22) 1sc in each around (24)
23) 1sc in the next 3st then 2sc in the 4th st, repeat around (30)
24) 1sc in each around. Finish off

Stuff the neck (as much as you can without over stuffing ) and the upper part of the body firmly, shape as you stuff.
By crocheting in the front loops for 2 rows you created a couple edges on the inside as pictured below. This is where you will close off the body and add the legs. Use the edge that is furthest from you when you look inside.

1) Insert and 1sc around for 1 row
2+)In the BLO, crochet 2tog until you close the gap. Should look as pictured above

LEGS:

1) magic circle with 4sc (4)
2) 2sc in each st (8)
3-5) 1sc in each st for 3 rows (8)
4) 2tog, 1sc in the next 2st, 2tog, 1sc in the last 2st (6)
5-6) 1sc in each st for 2 rows (6)
7) 2tog, 1sc in the next 4st (5)
8) 1sc in each st (5)
9) 2tog, 1sc in the next 3st (4)
10) 1sc in the next 4st
Finish off

SHOES make 4:

Ch 5
1sc in each ch and 3sc in last ch
continue stitching around the other side
sew 2 shoes together and sew to leg.
I took a brown felt pen and lightly dusted over the shoe then I sewed in some laces. All pictured below.

For the bottom of the dress I never did write down the pattern but it's simple enough. Chain a length that will fit around the under side of the dress. Chain 4, turn, skip a st and sc in the next. Repeat this all the way across the chain.

ARMS:

1) Magic circle 4 (4)
2) 2sc in each (8)
3-5) 1sc in each for 3 rows (8)
6) 2tog, 1sc in the next 2st, 2tog, 1sc in the last 2st (6)
7-12) 1sc in each for 6 rows (6)
continue on to make the hand
13) 1sc the 2sc around (9)
ch1 turn
1sc in the next 5st
ch1 turn
1sc in the next 5st
finish off

Do Not Stuff the Arms

To attach the arms thread yard through the inside part of the upper arm as pictured below then continue that thread though the body and on through the inside of the other arm pull it tight and knot off, doing them this way gives you jointed arms!

chain a length that will fit around the upper arm. I chained 10 for the area pictured below. I also lightly dusted over this chain with a brown felt pen.

Do this same process for the dress collar just below the neck too.

EARS make 2:

magic circle with 4 st. Do not join
ch1 turn
1sc then 2sc to the end (6)
1sc in each (6)
finish off and shape.

I took the remaining yarn tails and sewed through each pointed end of the ear and pulled to form a bit of a round shape. Pictured below

You're almost finished, now for the fun part... my favorite part of making dolls. Adding hair and creating a face that gives the doll it's personality!

This doll's hair was pretty easy as you can just make braids then sew them onto her head. I made about 12 braids, and started by sewing at the top of her head and working downwards, styling as I went. 6 braids on one side and six on the other.

For the eyes and mouth, nose and so on, it is all up to the creator. I chose to make yarn buttons and I glued these in place to keep the shape of the eye, magic circle 6, 2sc in each (12) finish off, used black pen to paint in 4 button holes.

The nose is created by inserting a length of yarn through the back of the head and out through where the nose will be. Use a needle and crochet hook to build and shape the nose. Once you've finished run the tail of the yarn back out through the back of the head and knot off. Hide in the hair. The same goes for the mouth.

So now we're finished and you have your own Ghost doll! If there are any questions please feel free to leave a comment below

    1. HI Tina, I haven't looked at this pattern for a long time but if you are talking about the legs, you are right. That would give you 5st... not too worry that one st wouldn't have changed much but I'll go fix that part in the pattern. Thank you so much for commenting, I appreciate it :)

  8. This is the third coraline character I have made now off of your patterns. They have all turned out beautifully. Your YouTube tutorials are awesome too. By far the easiest patterns to follow of any I have done. Great work and thanks for sharing!!!

Yes, scroll up on the right side of this page there's a long list of labels. Click on Coraline. I have Craloine and Caroline, those 2 are the same but made in different colors. Or scroll all the way up on the right side there's a search bar, type in Caroline
