Little Boy Knight,
This Knight is part of the Dragon story I released last year. You can get the story links and see the dragon here.

The only piece not included in this pattern is the sword.  The sword instructions are found in part two.

Supplies:
worsted weight acrylic yarn in cream, grey and any color for the hair
a small amount of yarn in red for adding decoration
4mm hook
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
scissors
polyester stuffing
black yarn for eyes or 6mm safety eyes
bobby pin - for shield

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
ch1 = chain one
FLO = front loops only
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
f/o = finish off

How to read the rows:
Add a maker at the end of row 2 and move that marker each time you finish a row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that row. When you land on the marker you should be putting in 2sc. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Magic ring:
Many parts of this amigurumi begin with a magic ring. I have 2 short video tutorials that will show you 2 different methods of making a magic ring. Use the one that is easiest for you. View 1st method here and 2nd method here.

Head and Body:
Starting at the top of the head with skin color
1) magic circle with 7sc (7)
2) 2sc in each st (14)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (21)
4-8) 1sc in each st for 5 rows
If you are using safety eyes, install them in between the 6th and 7th row with 3 visible stitch holes between them. Before you install them, turn the doll so the last st you put is in the center of the back of the head. That last st will also be the same side you finish off the body. You want the finishing side to be the back of the body.
Instructions for yarn eyes, nose and mouth are in the assembly section and are done after the doll is stuffed and closed up.
9) 1sc in the first st, (now there's 20st left in the row), 2tog around (11)
10) 1sc in next 9st, change colors in 10th st, sl st the last st (11)
11) 2sc in each st for 1 row (22)
12-13) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
14) 1sc in next 9st then 2sc in next 2st, 1sc in next 9st then 2sc in last 2st (26)
15) 1sc in each st for 1 row
16) 1sc in the FLO for 1 row (26)
sl st next loop. f/o and weave in yarn tail
Stuff the head.

Pants and legs:
Turn the doll upside down and roll back row 16 to expose the loops inside the body. Look for  the area where you f/o row 16 with a sl st, insert yarn into a loop or 2 to the right of that sl st.
1) ch1, this ch counts as a st. 1sc in each loop (26)

Now you will create the leg holes.
If you have installed safety eyes then you need to 1sc in the next few st until you get centered with the eyes. Your last st should be in the center of the eyes.
Continue now with the legs, the pictures are numbered according to each step from 1-5.
Step 1) 1sc into the 13th st from the hook.
Step 2)  crocheting back towards yourself and to the left, 1sc in 13st for 2 rows. f/o and tuck yarn tail inside leg.

2nd leg, turn the doll upside down, with the back of the doll facing you and with the 1st leg to your left:
Step 3) Insert your hook through the 2 stitches that are the closet to the first leg.
Step 4) pull the yarn through
Step 5) turn the doll so the front side now faces you and the first leg now to your right.

Step 6) As pictured with the arrow, starting in the first st to your left, pull the starting yarn tail tight, (crocheting around the starting yarn tail to lock it in), 1sc in 13st for 2 rows. f/o and tuck yarn tail inside leg.
Stuff the body, shape as you stuff, stuff to the edge of the leg holes. If it's too difficult to keep the stuffing inside the leg, leave that part of the stuffing until you have the shoes partly sewn in place.

Shoes: make 2 with grey
1) magic circle with 7sc (7)
2) 2sc in each st (14)
sl st next st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing and shaping.

Shoe assembly:
Step 1: Place the wrong side of a shoe inside a leg hole, line up the stitches with the stitches of the leg, whip stitch around. Your needle should be going under the 2 loops of a stitch on the shoe and 2 loops of  the stitch on the leg, each time you go through. Leave a small gap for stuffing if needed then use a stuffing stick to push the stuffing in. Do not over stuff, you want the bottom of the shoe to be flat when you're done. When you make it around to where you started continue with step 2.

Step 2: To create the front of the shoe, wrap the yarn 5 times into one space then 5 times again in the next space and again in the next, around the front part of the shoe. Doing this creates a fat ridge which gives it shape and it will help the doll stand. Wrap the yarn in one direction. It doesn't matter if you wrap from top to bottom or from bottom to top but do the same direction for both shoes, otherwise they will look slightly different from each other. Once done, knot off and  hide remaining yarn tail inside the leg.

Hair Cap: with any color
1) magic circle with 7sc (7)
2) 2sc in each st (14)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (21)
4-7) 1sc in each st for 4 rows
sl st next and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing

Arms: make 2 with grey
1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 6sc (6)
2-4) 1sc in each st for 3 rows
sl st next st and f/o leaving a tail for sewing. Bring the finishing yarn tail up through the center hole of row 1, straighten out the arm, and knot off. You will use this yarn tail to sew the arm to the body.

Hands: with skin color
1) crocheting through both sides of the open part of the arm, insert skin color into the far right side, ch1 then 1sc in the same space. Working to the left, 2hdc in the next 2 spaces.
f/o leaving a tail to make a thumb.
Thumbs: Wrap the yarn tail over a small section on one side of the hand and pull tight to create a separation in the hand. The small bump on one side of the separation is the thumb. When you sew the arms to the body be sure the thumbs are facing each other. The hands will have a slightly different look from each other but they are small so that's barely noticeable.

Helmet: with grey
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st (28)
6) 1sc in each st for 1 row (28) ch1 and turn
7) skip ch, 1hdc in next 22st (22) ch1 and turn
8) skip ch, 1hdc in each st (22) ch1 and turn
9) skip ch, 1hdc in each st (22) ch1 and turn
10) skip ch,1hdc in each st (22) ch1 and turn
11) skip ch, 1hdc in each st (22) ch1 and turn
12) skip ch, 1sc in next 4st, 1hdc in next 6st, 2dc in next st, ch1, 2dc in next st, 1hdc in next 6st, 1sc in next 4st (25)
f/o and weave in yarn tail

Face Plate for Helmet: with grey make 1
1) ch13
2) starting in 2nd ch, 1sc in each ch (12) ch1 and turn
3) 1hdc in next 5st, 2dc in next st, ch1, 2dc in next st, 1hdc in next 5st (15)
f/o leaving a tail fore sewing

Decoration on top of helmet: With red
Flatten the helmet so that the open front sides line up.
1) insert red in between the 2nd and 3rd row, in the front, center of helmet and ch1(counts as a stitch) working towards the back of the helmet, 1sc in the next 6 spaces (7) ch1 and turn
2) starting in 2nd st, 1sc in each st (7) ch1 and turn
you can get creative with the 3rd row, For a couple of them I only used 3st then f/o.
To use all the stitches follow row 3.
3) 1hdc in next 3st, 1sc in next 2st then sl st last 2st
f/o. You could weave in the yarn tail or add a few strands to decorate this part further.

Face plate assembly:
Place the helmet on the head, be sure to pull the bottom of the 2 front edges in towards the face. Place the face plate over the face, take note on where the ends are sitting on the helmet, remove the helmet and sew each side to the helmet. Weave in yarn tails.

Shield: with grey make 2
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
Pull the starting yarn tail tight to close up any center gap.
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 11st, 2hdc in next st, ch1, 2hdc in next st, 1sc in next 11st (27)
f/o leaving a tail for sewing.

Shield decoration and assembly:
Decorate the right side of one shield piece. If you like the decoration I made then using red yarn  make an X then add a short  red line in front of  each point of the X. Add 2 short red lines just above the sharper tip of the shield. Once done, knot the yarn tails and cut short. Place the wrong sides of the shield pieces together, making sure the pieces are lined up, then whip stitch around the edges. Knot off at the end and hide yarn tail inside shield.
Push a bobby pin from the front to the back. The bobby pin will hold up the shield for display.

Assembly: Follow the steps in the order they are given for best results.

1) Yarn eyes and mouth: Bring black yarn through the top of the head and out  in between the 6th and 7th row, wrap the yarn around the 6th row 2 or 3 times. Bring the yarn to the other side to make the other eye with 3 visible stitch holes between the eyes. Once done the eyes, bring the yarn in between the 8th and 9th row to make the mouth. Once done, bring the yarn back up through the head and out one stitch over from where you went in. Knot the yarn tails together and cut short.

2) Yarn nose and eyelids: Bring skin color yarn through the top of the head and out in between the 6th and 7th row, wrap the yarn around the 7th row a number of times until you have the size of nose you want. Once done the nose, bring the yarn tail out in between the 5th and 6th row, above each eye, and  wrap the yarn, horizontally over the top of the eyes 2 or 3 times. Once done, bring the yarn back up, a stitch over from where you went in, knot the yarn tails together and cut short.

3) Sew on the hair cap: First stretch out the cap so it fits easier on the head. Place it so the bottom of the back of the cap sits on row 10 of the head. You can whip stitch "hair strands" around the entire edge of the cap or do as I did and just add the bangs in the front, the part you see through the helmet. If you add only bangs, do add a few holding stitches in the back and sides of the cap to keep it held in place first.
3a) Bangs: wrap the yarn over the front of the cap, you can make long or short wraps, over and over again along the front, wrapping into the head just above the eyes. Do not pull tight or you will see holes in the head when you're done. Pull just enough to bring the yarn into place.Once done, knot off anywhere on the cap and hide yarn tail inside head.

4) Sew on the arms. The top of the arm should be on or about row 11, the first grey row of the body.

To make the sword, go to part 2!
The Knight is almost  ready  for battle, he just needs his sword. That part is right here.

  1. Love the little knight but not sure what I'm doing wrong. When I get to the end of row 9 I have more than 11 stitches. Is row 9 correct?

    2. 9) 1sc in the first st, (now there's 20st left in the row), 2tog around (11)

When you start row 9 you should have 21 stitches to work with.
Put 1sc into the first stitch and then there are 20 stitches left to work with in the row.

In those remaining 20 stitches you crochet 2 stitches together 10 times.

Crocheting 2 stitches together turns 2st into 1st.
If done correctly you should have reduced row 9 by 10 stitches.

      21 stitches - 10 stitches = 11 stitches.
