Floating Hunny Pot

crochet winnie the pooh hunny pot and red balloon

Floating Hunny Pot,

Use this pot to carry a small gift, decorate a child's bedroom, hang off the Christmas tree. The possibilities are endless. The mini Pooh bear pattern is here.
I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Print off the pattern,
Use the Print Friendly found here.

Supplies:
worsted weight yarn for the pot and  yellow for the honey - the colors should be from the same yarn brand so you don't get too much of a variation in gauge between the honey and the pot.
I used Red Heart Comfort Yarn in Turquoise and Bright Yellow
About 3 feet of yarn or thin string for attaching balloon
4mm hook
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
scissors
1 Big Balloon. Pattern for balloon here

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
BLO = back loops only
FLO = front loops only
ch1 = chain one
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
f/o = finish off

How to read the rows that work  in the round:
Mark off the last stitch and move that marker at the end of each row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Special notes:
You can make a stuffed pot instead of adding a balloon or lining the pot. If you want to make a stuffed pot, skip everything after the pot pattern, scroll to the bottom and look for the pattern to make the middle piece.

Pot:
Starting at the bottom of the pot
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in the BLO for 1 row
5) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
6) 1sc in each st for 1 row
7) 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st (28)
8-10) 1sc in each st for 3 rows
11) 1sc in next 5st then 2tog (24)
12) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (20)
13) switch to honey color in the first st, sl st the next st and 1sc in each of the remaining st (20) *crochet around the yarn tails in this row, you only have to crochet over them for a few stitches then cut the excess.
14) 1sc in the FLO for 1 row
15) ch6, starting in the 2nd ch, 1sc in each ch then 1sc into the same stitch you chained in, 1sc in the next 2st, ch4, starting in the 2nd ch, 1sc in each ch then 1sc into the same stitch you chained in then 1sc in the next 2 stitches. Repeat this sequence around the pot, chaining  different lengths for each drip from long to short. Mix up the different lengths for the effect of honey running over a pot's edge.
For the pot pictured in this pattern, the longest drip is 6 chains long, the shortest drip is 2 chains long.
sl st last st in the row then f/o leaving a tail for sewing. Using the yarn tail go around the pot sewing each drip down, sew right down into each tip of the drips so they don't curl upwards. Do not pull too tight, just snug enough to keep the drips on the pot.

Lining Inside Pot: with honey color

1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in the FLO for 1 row
5) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
6) 1sc in each st for 1 row
7) 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st (28)
8-11) 1sc in each st for 4 rows
sl st next st and f/o leaving a long tail for sewing. Pull inside out. The right side should now be the inside of the lining.

Before sticking the lining into the pot,

1) Add the strings. Cut 3, 12 inch strings, I used yarn. Knot one end of a string, thread the other end with your yarn needle, and pull it through from the inside edge of the pot. Do this 3 times.

2) Stretch out the pot before sticking the lining in. This will help it go in easier. Depending on the yarn you used (different colors will work up slightly different gauge for some brands of yarn) the lining might need a bit more fiddling to get it to sit in place. Place the lining inside the pot. Remember, it should be inside out so the right side shows when looking inside the pot.  Push down on the bottom, while pulling up on the sides, this should flatten out the bottom. Squish the sides into place. Adjust what's needed until it sits neatly inside the pot.

3) Sew the lining to the pot. Do not whip stitch into the outer loops of the pot, this will make them pull away from the edge and look untidy, instead, stitch right through the lining and the pot making short even stitches all the way around the top of the pot. Knot off when done and hide yarn tail.

Attach the strings to the balloon,
1) Thread all 3 strings with your yarn needle.
2) Pull the strings through the end of the balloon and out through any stitch hole on the side of the balloon. Adjust the distance, if you are adding a bear or something else, make sure you are leaving room for that. Also be sure the strings are all even so the pot hangs level.
3) Un-thread 2 strings then carry the 1 string back through the same stitch hole you came out of  and out through where the balloon yarn tail was wrapped around the end, knot off.
4) Carry the string back into the balloon and out through a stitch hole. Pull on it slightly and cut. Repeat same steps for each of the remaining strings.
5) Wrap the same color as the balloon around the end to hide any string color when  you're all done hiding the last string.

If you have chosen to make a stuffed pot,
make the middle piece, stuff the pot and sew the middle piece over the stuffing and to the edge of the pot. Stuff half the pot, sew the middle piece about 3/4 the way around then stuff the pot more, shape the pot as you stuff.

Middle piece to make a stuffed pot: using same color as the honey
If you want to stuff the pot and close it up then you need to make this cover
1) magic circle with 6sc (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
sl st next st and f/o leaving a tail for sewing.
