Please note:
There is no video tutorial for the puppy yet but I did include some video links in some steps that you might find helpful for certain parts. Like: how to whip stitch a nose in, how to sew a muzzle on and more.
If you made a multi-colored pup like I did, sewing on the parts is no different than sewing parts on a solid colored amigurumi. Keep the stitches as close as you can to the part you're sewing in and you will not see the stitches.

ASSEMBLY:
Some people find sewing amigurumis together a bit daunting. I used to as well, I used to dread sewing things together! I enjoy it now. The trick is to relax, don't hold things so tight. Let the yarn needle do all the work. Use pins to hold things in place, use lots of pins when you can. Always make sure you are happy with the placement of things BEFORE sewing. Take your time and always take breaks when you need them. Enjoy!

1) Flatten the foot before sewing any parts. Cut 2 yarn tails, about 12 inches long or so, the same color as the foot. Thread 1 strand of yarn with your yarn needle, bring one end through the middle circle of row 1 and out through the top of the foot, in between row 8 and 9, and then wrap the yarn over about 2 or 3 stitch holes and back down into the foot and out the middle circle, just a bit so that when you knot it off the knot doesn't pull through the circle.

Pull the yarn tails until you have flattened out the foot as pictured. Knot off and hide the yarn tails inside foot.

I borrowed the foot photos from another pattern of mine, the feet you made now will be much smaller than these one pictured.

2) Sew the legs on. For those with the sitting puppy: The flap of the leg should be fully under the belly. Sew both rows of flap to the body so that the flap is completely sewn in.
The legs should fall freely downward when you hold the puppy up and sit easily when you put it down. Knot off and hide yarn tails inside body.
There is a video showing how to sew the flap in place. Again, for a larger puppy but it could be helpful. View here

For the standing puppy, pin the legs side by side first to make sure there's enough room for the 2nd one once you sew the 1st one on. Remove one then sew the other in place.

Sew the edge, all around the leg, to the body. Knot off anywhere when done and hide yarn tail inside body. Sew on 2nd leg. There is a video for sewing standing LBF legs on here

3) Sew the arms on or about row 23 (or 2 rows under the start of the neck). Knot off and hide yarn tails inside body.

4) Sew the tail on. I sewed the tail so that it sits to the side and points upward.
Knot off and hide yarn tail inside body.

5a) Whip stitch a nose onto the muzzle. Pull yarn color of choice through center hole of row 1, wrap it over 3 rows, keep wrapping until you are happy with the size of the nose. Finish off with a straight line, down the middle under the nose, over 3 rows. Knot off the yarn tails inside the muzzle and tuck them inside. I have a video tutorial showing how to whip stitch a nose in, view here.

5b) Sew on the muzzle. Stuff up the majority, pushing stuffing into the sides of the muzzle to help shape it more. The top edge of the muzzle should be on or about row 14 and 15 and the bottom on or about row 18. I found it easier to add a holding stitch to 4 sides first: bottom, top and one on each side. Be sure the nose is centered before continuing on. Then sew around the muzzle leaving a small gap for more stuffing if you need more stuffing. Use the back end of a pencil to stuff. Take your time! I stuffed lots more into this muzzle after most of it was sewn on and I also used the stuffing to shape it more. I pushed lots into the side so that the muzzle looked more wide on the sides.
Once you are satisfied you have enough stuffing, sew up the remaining gap. Knot off and hide yarn tail inside head. There's a video tutorial that shows how to sew a muzzle on. Again, for the larger puppy but it might be helpful. View that here.

6) Sew the ears on. Sew them in line with the arms. The ear should be in between row 7 and 8 and Knot off when done and hide yarn tails inside head.

7) Sew the eyelids on if you chose to make those. The rounded edge should be facing the front of the eye, the straight edge sewn to the head. Play around with different positions, they don't have to be like what's pictured. I sewed mine on a slant. I sewed the top corner in between the 9th and 10th row and the bottom edge in between the 12th and 13th row. There's a video tutorial that shows how to sew the eyelids in. Again, for the larger puppy but it might be helpful. View that here.

8) You can add a bit of blush cheeks for some color. I added some to the beige puppy. Start lightly and build up the color. I use a q-tip to rub it in.

  1. Sharon, Thanks so much for creating this pattern. It is perfect as a go along with a fleece blanket I crocheted the edges of that is printed with a similar looking little doggie. I just finished one of your big food monkeys for a blanket with monkeys on it, and was able to figure out how to add a cute pink crocheted tutu that I crocheted right on the monkey. I came back here hoping to find a puppy the same size, and was not disappointed! I have made so many of your patterns up to gift to my 20 grandchildren and 3 great grand children, and they turn out great every time. Now I am working on shower gifts for former students who have married and will eventually be starting their families.
