Little Bigfoot Monkey Revised Pattern Video Tutorial

Little Bigfoot Monkey 2014,
Here is another pattern that's been revised, improved and now comes with a full video tutorial. This is an older pattern of mine from 2012. I did my best to keep the original features that people loved but make some of the parts easier. Like the feet and legs. Those are the same but I decreased the rows in a way that will be easier for the beginner. The muzzle is made completely different and also there's an option for bigger ears. I also include 3 different options for the eyes in the video tutorial so nobody will be stuck if they don't have safety eyes! Oh, and the head and body are now one piece which means less sewing.

Supplies:
One lighter and one darker color of Red Heart Super Saver or Red Heart Comfort 100% acrylic yarn
4.5mm hook - use a smaller hook if you see gaps in your stitches
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
sharp end needle if doing embroidery and embroidery thread
scissors
100% polyester stuffing
felt, paint, buttons, or yarn for eyes ( I used 8mm buttons a 7.5mm and also a 9mm safety eyes. But size is not critical and can vary)
optional - fabric tac (fabric glue) or invisible thread (if making the larger ears)
optional -  pipe cleaner to make tail poseable and help the monkey stand

This pattern uses the following stitches:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
f/o = finish off

Magic ring:
Many parts of this amigurumi begin with a magic ring. I have 2 short video tutorials that will show you 2 different methods of making a magic ring. Use the one that is
easiest for you. View 1st method here and 2nd method here.

How to read the rows:
Add a maker at the end of row 2 and move that marker each time you finish a row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that row. When you land on the marker you should be putting in 2sc. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Assembly:
If you assemble the doll in the order I give you then you will not have to worry so much about centering the different parts as much.

1) Sew the arms on. These get sewn directly under the head
2) sew on the legs. How you sew the legs on is up to you. I wanted this monkey to be in a standing position so I sewed them on in a way the doll stands up. View the video on how to do this at 1:10:03.UPDATE ~> I just added a new video for an alternate way to sew on the legs right here
3) sew on tail
4) sew on the muzzle (top of muzzle should sit just above the 10th or 11th row).
5) add eyes to the eye patches then sew the eye patches to the head. ( video at 1:31:30)
6) sew on the ears (between the 8th and 12th row). Pin them in place before sewing them in helps. But again, view the video for tips on sewing this part.

And that's it. You now have your very own Little Bigfoot Monkey! If you did make a monkey please post pictures on my facebook page, Amigurumi Freely

    3. Miss Sharon as I was flipping through all of my emails I came across this page called Hooked on Crochet and so I looked at all of the lines of different things to do. I have lost my job and it has been hard in getting a job and it is hard to keep me busy I get a project and finish it rather quickly then I have to find another project, BUT OH BUT when I got to this one of the Little Bigfoot Monkey I just didn't know what to do. I ran to my cubby to what I had and well I had all but one of the items that you have on the list. so I ran out and got it. Well to say the lest I have been working on this for the 3 days. I keep getting pulled away from the screen for one thing or another I think what I have to do is get out of the house and sit somewhere where I don't get pulled away so I can finish it and want to make more of them all the different colors that I can get my hands on . Sharon I can not thank you enough for this monkey you have given me a goal to make them so I can send some to my nice who is in Huston at the Anderson Hospital so that she will know that she has a lot of CRAZY MONKEY here for her. I will send you a pic once I get each one done. Once again Sharon thank you very very very much for putting this monkey I know that my nice is going to love them. 14. I made this monkey for a friend who has cancer. I gave it to him on June 21, 2014. He laughed, as that little monkey just tickled him. I put a pipe cleaner in the tail, made the tail a little longer so it could hang by the tail. I showed him how to hang the monkey and there again it tickled him so and said it was so cute and thanked me. My friends wife said, " you like that monkey he made you laugh." July 13, 2014 my friend passed away. But he sure did love your monkey and it made him smile. I'm glad I did your tutorial. My monkey turned out looking just like a monkey. Thank you so much for sharing your wonder and easy to follow tutorials. It made my friend smile and it made me happy.

  22. Good Morning, just came upon your site via YouTube. I am from USA or across the pond from you..LOL it's been many years since once again thinking about crocheting (now 71) and when I saw your animals couldn't wait to give it a try. Today I have to go buy yarn, which in a since makes me very sad. A year ago we were forced to leave our home to move to much smaller apt, easier for us to live in (both disabled) so most all our possessions had to go. Crafting was not on my mind soooo all my build up of soooo many supplies went. Did mange to hang onto my knitting and crochet needles/hooks however. Now for my question what are the measurements of these previous Amigurumis? Where do you live? I have the dearest online friend in UK we chat daily. We met in an online Bible Study I was teaching and her son gifted her a trip over here a few yrs ago, first time she ever flew or left her country...it was so exciting. Well this time has been nice to meet you. Hoping the animals I make will catch on and our youngest GD (10) will start a rage for them lol. She got me interested in doing Rainbow Loom

  25. What would happen if I used a 5mm hook?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you crochet loose stitches then using a 5mm hook will cause gaps and you'll see stuffing through the stitches. But you you crochet more on the tight side then a 5mm will work great and the amigurumi will turn out a bit larger. You could also hold 2 strands together and use 5mm and then you'll have even a bigger amigurumi. If you go to the search bar near the top of this page on the right hand side and search "larger amigurumi" click on the top post that appears and I explain that a little further with pictures as well

    1. 6 single crochets. I give the option for the magic circle or the adjustable loop chain 2 method and each one has a video tutorial. Each one is underlined at the start of the pattern, those are links so just click on them. Try each method and see which one works best for you :)

    1. it's a piece of felt. I ran a bead of fabric glue along the edge. It held up fine but I'm sure it could be ripped off if a child played with it. It was just a last minute thought so I never made it part of the pattern. I've seen other people crochet a tongue and sew it into place.

It looks as if the owner of this site is using your pattern as their own. I just wanted to let you know. Keep creating!
    Thank you again,
    Beth

    1. Hi Beth, first of all, thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate that. I'm so glad you are enjoying the patterns and they will come in handy for Christmas.

And I checked out that site. They lay no claims to the pattern although it does appear to belong to them the way they have my description displayed. They do make revenue from ads but they also have it linked back to this site, so that one I will let stay there. It's unfortunate that there's so many people that do things this way but I pick my battles carefully now (it's a time issue) and this one gets a pass. But I really do appreciate you letting me know!

All the best to you and happy crocheting!

  56. What eyes would you recommend to usefor a baby? I'm crocheting this for a baby shower gift

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wouldn't recommend eyes if the ami is going to a baby. I would be afraid to recommend anything and then have something go horribly wrong.

Maybe embroider them, that would be the safest. If you look on pinterest there are tutorials for embroidering eyes or even google it, "embroider eyes for doll".
      Hope that helps

I really like your designs, especially the teaching video that comes with your designs! :)
I made a monkey based on your design above with a few of my own touches back in Feb. you can find it in my flickr:

  59. Me again, no question this time but want to pass on something i do. Like I said everyone wants Monkey...lol so have made I think ten so far. But on the larger ears, what I found is because we turn it inside out to put center piece, I reverse on the last row of sc, than it looks better plus folds in nicer also. Also had a couple of glued inner ears fall out so now I tack it in to outer. Thinking of making up cards to give out and will have your copyright on there...you as my teacher. Again your huge heart and generosity is so appreciated in this world of selfishness. Lord bless Sharon with better health this year and bless her family that also give us her time. Amen

  69. It doesn't look like you are responding to comments anymore, but I love this pattern and was wondering if you had tips for increasing the size? Would love to have a bigger monkey. Thanks!

  70. On rows 6-9 it says to do single crochet for 4 rows rather than 3,or have I got it wrong. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. you count 6 in your row count. You do 4 complete rows.

      6,7,8,9 = 4 rows

      Thanks for asking!

  71. I'm thinking of making a binkey holder for a friend. It looks like this would probably be too large- do you have anything smaller?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi I have used 4.50mm 5mm and 5.50mm hook and I do tight stitches and follow the written and video tutorials and my monkey is coming out very small

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. it's on;y a 8in monkey, it's not very large. If you're using regular worsted weight yarn with those larger 5mm hooks, would you not be getting gaps in your stitches? If you want to make the monkey bigger, try those large hooks and double the yarn. Hold 2 strands of yarn together and follow the pattern with a 5mm or larger hook. Hope that helps :)

  73. For some reason, the print friendly version shows the steps correctly but converting it to PDF, the body section is missing steps after 9.

    1. so weird.. I don't know how to fix that, the Print Friendly is a free service we get to place on our blogs but we have nothing to do with how they work.
I do have copy and paste enabled on my blog though.. left click and drag over the area you need, once it is highlighted, right click anywhere inside the highlighted area, click copy, then you can paste it into any program you use such as word or notepad etc... Hope that helps!

  74. I wasn't sure where to put this since it isn't specific to the monkey but I don't use Facebook so hopefully this is an okay place.

My daughter is a huge fan of the Little Big Foot animals and I was wondering if you would mind if I mix and matched parts to increase her collection. Using the elephant trunk, monkey tail, and rabbit ears in the same doll, for example.

We love the patterns. Your creativity has brought tons of entertainment to our household and lots of joy to my young daughter.

  77. I was having a terrible time with assembly until I switched the order. I now attache in this order and they turn out better: ears, eyes, muzzle, arms, legs, tail. I also prefer my heads to be bigger than my bodies so I flipped the head/torso upside down. SUCH CUTE PATTERS! THANK YOU <3
