Video Many Hearts One Pattern

After releasing my very first heart pattern on Valentine's Day I received some requests for a larger one so this is what I came up with. It the almost perfect heart! I say almost because of a slight dip that happens after the f/o but it can be taken
care of when you weave in the yarn tail.
You can make many different sizes depending on the hook size you use. You can also double up on the yarn strands to make them even bigger and also sew them together to get a 3-D heart. It's a fun pattern and I hope you enjoy it!

Supplies List:
3.75mm to a 5.5mm hook depending on the size of heart you want
worsted weight medium #4 (Red Heart)
yarn needle

How to read the rows: Each row has a sequence as given below. For example 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
f/o = finish off

Special notes: Rows 4 and 5 contain a stitch that I'm not sure what to call. See photo below or view the video tutorial if that stitch is confusing. Also weave in the yarn tail when finished the way I show you and this will take care of that slight dip along the bottom edge of the heart.

Using a 3.75mm hook and 1 strand of worsted weight yarn,
this is the 2 sizes depending on what row you finish off on
Watch full video tutorial here

1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 6st (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12) *crochet the starting yarn tail into this row

3) 1sc in next 3st, 3sc in next st, 2sc in next st, sl st next 2st, 2sc in next st, 3sc in next st, 1sc in next 3st (18)

4) 1sc, (1hdc in next st then put a sc in the top of the hdc and a sc in the bottom of the hdc) 1sc in next 3st, 2sc in next st, 2hdc next 2st, 1sc in next st, sl st next st, 1sc in next st, 2hdc in next 2st, 2sc in next st and 1sc in next 4st (26 )

* To make the heart one row larger continue onto row 5. To keep the heart at this size you will use only 3st of the next row. 1sc in next 2st, sl st and f/o pull tight. Weave the yarn tail in to hide it, see photos below how to weave the yarn tail in to fill out that slight dip along the edge of the heart.

5) 1sc, (1hdc in next st then put a sc in the top of the hdc and a sc in the bottom of the hdc) 1sc in next 8st, 2hdc next 2st, 2sc next st, 1sc in next st, sl st next st, 1sc next st, 2sc in next st, 2hdc next 2st, 1sc in next 7st (33 ) (*there is technically 34st if you count the buried sl st in the top of the heart in the middle)

6) (* you will use only 5st of the row) 1sc in the next 2st, 1hdc in next st, sl st next 2st and f/o. Weave in yarn tail to hide it and at the same time fill in the slight dip along the side of the heart.

When weaving in the yarn tail bring it from underneath to the top first. This will neatly take care of that slight dip in the heart on that edge

Depending on the size of heart you want, play around with different hook sizes or double up on the yarn strands. Also, pulling in another yarn strand and crocheting it around the back loops makes the heart a row bigger and gives it a pretty outline. I show how to do this in the video tutorial.
The 1st one on the ruler I made with 2 strands of yarn and a 5.5mm hook, the 2nd one with a 5.5mm hook and one strand of yarn, the 3rd with a 3.75mm hook and one strand, the last same as the 3rd but finished off one row before.

Have fun and make a bunch! Post pictures of your hearts on my facebook page, Amigurumi Freely

  3. I just worked one up and it's ADORABLE, thanks so much. I collect heart motif patterns and it's so much fun to see how the little differences make each heart unique. I sometimes sew them onto amigurumi's for babies, the hearts add that little extra love~!

    1. wow, I'm so happy to read your message! I really tried to make the pattern different but still user friendly. Heart shapes are actually quite difficult to design, I was surprised!
      I'm happy you like it and will be able to use it in the future :)
      Happy Crocheting!!
