What can be done with crochet balloons?
These crocheted balloons would make great party favors for a birthday party or as a fun decoration hung in a child's bedroom.
I used 20 gauge wire, looped one end and put a piece of tape over it so it wouldn't topple over. If you made the loop larger it would stand up on its own.

Given below are 2 different size balloon patterns. The bigger one works up to about 4 inches long if you use the same yarn and hook size I did. The 2nd pattern works up about half that size.
Supplies:
worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Comfort yarn for all but the red balloons which are Red Heart Super Saver.
4mm hook
blunt end yarn needle for sewing
scissors
polyester stuffing
Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
FLO = front loops only
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
f/o = finish off
How to read the rows that work in the round:
Mark off the last stitch and move that marker at the end of each row. Each row has a sequence. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Big Balloon: starting at the top
1) magic circle with 7sc (7) pull starting yarn tail tight to close up gap
2) 2sc in each st (14)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (21)
4) 1sc in next 6st then 2sc in next st (24)
5) 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st (30)
6-7) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
8) 1sc in next 8st then 2tog (27)
9) 1sc in each st for 1 row
10) 1sc in next 7st then 2tog (24)
11) 1sc in each st for 1 row
12) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (20)
13) 1sc in next 8st then 2tog (18)
14) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (15)
15) 1sc in next 3st then 2tog (12)
Stuff the majority of the balloon.
16) 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (10)
17) (1sc then 2tog) repeat that sequence 3 times then 1sc in the last st of the row (7)
Stuff more as needed
18) in the FLO 2sc in each loop (14)
sl st next loop and finish off leaving a tail. Wrap the yarn tail tightly around the last row a few times to make it look like a balloon does when tied off to keep the air inside then knot off and hide yarn tail inside balloon.
