Minion Marshmallow Roast

Although this is all in good fun, very young children or sensitive children might be upset by these photos. I actually have a son who was super sensitive when he was a small child. This would be a post I would not show him back then. Please keep that in mind before viewing with children, especially those who love their minions!

Now that we have that out of the way, you are all invited to a Minion Marshmallow Roast!

Just before I started getting the pattern together for the regular roasting marshmallow, (that pattern here), I was corresponding with a good friend of mine. We were discussing the minion and our mutual lack of love for them. Don't get me wrong, they are cute and all and I confess I did have a love for them when they first came out but that slowly faded over time with the million and one minion posts. They invaded everything! Anyway, the thought came to me, unite the minion lovers and haters with one photo! The lovers will think, "awe cute! A minion marshmallow!" And the haters will think, "YES! Roast them!" *insert evil laugh here*. I posted that photo on my facebook page and I was totally surprised by the number of minion haters! And those who love minions got a kick out of the photo. I'm happy  that people had fun with it, that's what I was hoping for. I also got requests for the pattern and that's what's brought us here.
Which one are you, a minion lover or a hater?

Read me ~> How to read the rows: Each row has a sequence as given below. Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence 1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over to the end of that particular row. The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.
Read me ~>  Add in a marker at the end of row 2 and move that marker at the end of every row. I just use a short length of yarn and pull it through the last stitch I put in at the end of every row. Work in continuous rounds, do not join. Have any questions or if you come across a mistake in the pattern please leave a message in the comment section below.

Red Heart yarn in bright yellow and blue
and black
4.25mm hook
blunt end yarn needle for sewing

black and white felt for face pieces
black paint unless you use googly eyes

tacky glue to glue on face pieces

st = stitch
sc = single crochet

BLO= back loops only
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together
ch = chain

f/o = finish off

Some parts of this pattern are very fiddly, especially the face. I never planned on releasing a pattern for this until I got a number of requests for it. I originally made the scared minion marshmallow as a joke for a friend. I decided why not, if you want to make one then go ahead! I hope you enjoy it but don't say I never warned you, lol. These are about the same or slightly bigger than a regular sized marshmallow.

Scroll up and read the "Read Me" sections if unsure how to read the rows
Marshmallow Minion: with bright yellow
1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 6st (6)

2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
if you plan on adding hair do it now. Tie off one or 2 strands of yarn to the center. Cut to desired length. I frayed these strands by splitting them with my yarn needle, do this part only if you wish to. Add a bit of glue to the part that doesn't show to ensure the hair stays in place.

4-10) 1sc in each st for 7 rows
11) 1sc then 2tog in the BLO (12)

f/o leaving a tail for sewing. Weave in and out of the remaining stitches then stuff and shape. Pull yarn tail to close the gap. knot off and hide the yarn tail inside the body.

Overalls: with blue

1) magic circle or adjustable loop with 6st (6)
2) 2sc in each st (12)
3) 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)
4) 1sc in the BLO for 1 row
5-6) 1sc in each st for 2 rows
7) ch4 and sc into the 4th st from the start of the ch then sl st next st. f/o and weave yarn tail in. To make the 2nd strap, pull yarn through a st directly across from the either end of the 1st strap, ch4 and sc into the 4th st from the start of the ch, sl st next st and f/o. Weave yarn tails in, the starting yarn tail should be weaved in and then knotted off so it doesn't pull through again when you stretch out the strap. Put the overalls onto the body, you might have to stretch them out first.

Arms: with bright yellow
Take note of what is the center of the overall straps, if you need to, mark this space with a pin. Take overalls off. Insert your hook through the center of the strap space, (make sure to have a long starting yarn tail, you will use this to sew the arm in place), ch5 and starting in the 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in next 3ch then sl st into the body. f/o and  hide yarn tail in body. Put overalls back onto body, center the arms then use the starting yarn tail to sew the arm to the body. Go right through the arm and overalls bringing the yarn tail out though the body. Give it a tug until the arm is firmly against the body. Knot it off with the next yarn tail when you finish sewing the 2nd arm in place. Hide yarn tails inside body.

For the one eyed minion I chained 18 for the eye goggle strap and for the two eyed minion I chained 16. The chain goes to the back of the head and the yarn tails sewn into the front and then out the back. You need a space in between the chain to glue the eyes on. Keep this space in mind when you cut out the felt for the eyes. If you make bigger eyes than I did then you need a shorter chain. Play around with it, feel free to change anything you don't like in this pattern.

I cut black and white circles from felt. The white circles are a tad smaller. I glued these pieces together and dotted on black paint for the pupils. I used black felt for the mouth and paper for the teeth and tongue on the one minion and glued these on as well. Tacky glue works great, you just have to leave the pieces alone until they are fully dry. These parts are small and very fiddly, they will require patience. Google "scared minion" for facial expression ideas.

I hope you enjoyed the pattern Post pictures on my facebook page Amigurumi Freely. Or post them on instagram with the hashtag #sharonojala. My ig ~>  Sharon_Ojala.

  2. Sharon, I do wish I could afford to give you a donation! I am continually amazed at what you "give" us with your crocheting. I would like to know, which is your most downloaded pattern?
