Monster Tucked Away

Little monster tucked away,

I just crocheted him tonight after a 3 week break from crocheting anything. I can't believe it's been that long since I've played with yarn but I have 2 good excuses. The 1st being I burned my thumb with a glue gun while working on a dollhouse project for my other blog .  I didn't realize that it was a 2nd degree burn and within 2 days infection had set in but I thought I could just keep it clean and it would heal eventually. I had no idea what I was dealing with. It turned out to be an aggressive infection and the doctor said I was lucky I went in when I did and had I waited just a couple hours longer then this story would be a whole lot different than what I'm writing tonight! Lesson learned for sure but delaying  treatment the healing process took a lot longer than it should have, in fact almost 3 weeks later and what started out as a dime sized burn is just starting to heal up now.

On a brighter note...

The 2nd good reason is my brother, his wife and their 3 kids came for a visit from Calgary. I hadn't seen them in so long. Then my oldest brother who is a fisherman and is usually away at sea was able to come with his wife from their town and my youngest brother was also able to come as well so for the first time in  22 years my entire family was together in one spot. It was an unplanned family reunion! It only lasted a couple hours then my oldest and youngest brother both had to return to work. A small window of time and my parents had all their children and grandchildren together, how amazing and wonderful for us all.

Ok, so now back to my monster tucked away!

I wasn't planning on crocheting today in fact I was cleaning out boxes in my bedroom. Small boxes filled with photos, letters and drawings my children have done. So I was sorting and I came across this awesome little drawing my daughter did a long time ago. I wish I would have dated it but I'm guessing she would have been about 8 yrs old. She's now 12. As soon as I saw it I wanted to amigurumify it! So that's what I did. I stopped all cleaning and sorting and grabbed my yarn and oh how wonderful that felt!

I showed the drawing to my daughter and she kinda remembers but it's been so long. She sat with me while I crocheted and she thought it should have a nose, a tail and thumbs so I added those. She thought it would be best not to crochet the pants.

Update: pattern is now ready here

He was tucked away in a box all these years and in just a short couple of hours he came alive. How fun to turn a child's drawing into a stuffy they can hold :) Both my daughter and my son love him.

So what's next? A pattern of course! I wrote it out right on the drawing itself as I crocheted him so as soon as I can I will get the notes into a pattern. I might change up a few things and get a couple different monsters.. we'll see what comes of this so come back soon and see what monsters are lurking here!

Little monster tucked away, I will always love you for getting me back to playing with yarn again!

The burn on your thumb sounds terrible..typical of us mums - we send everyone else to the doctor but don't go ourselves! Glad to hear that you are now on the mend though. Sharon x
