st = stitch
sc = single crochet
2tog = 2 stitches together
ch1 = chain one
sl st = slip stitch
f/o = finish off

What I used to make Totoro:
grey bulky yarn
cream color or off white worsted weight yarn medium #4
5.00 mm hook
3.75 mm hook (tummy piece)
Pieces of Felt (eyes)
4.5 mm black safety eyes (glued in place)
yarn needle
hot glue

Special notes: I worked in continuous rounds with a 5.00 mm hook and bulky yarn. I used the same pattern as I did for the Blue Totoro and the size difference comes from the bulky yarn. I put the face and the eyes in after the doll was stuffed and sewn closed, view video here

I couldn't decide if I liked the whiskers so I ended up removing them

start stuffing. Shape as you stuff. This little guy needs lots of help to be shaped so take your time and it helps to look at a picture of the actual character.
